What’s New

This term Physiocise has really been focusing on giving our clients all the tools for “wellness” to help us travel in to the Christmas season at the top of our game, and ready to enjoy the season. What we have seen is that although we have been trying to give ourselves a little more time and space to breathe (amongst other things!), what we find is that we also all need people. Our coffee groups below are a perfect example…

Upgrade your mind for 2017

Physiocise gets ready to launch our take on Osteoporosis Prevention and Treatment

For years physiocise has created a safe environment to learn and exercise if you have a sore back, dodgy knees or hips, or a less than ideal pelvic floor. Of all the enduring benefits of physiocise, one of the most amazing is the group of people you meet. We’d like you to meet three of our favourite groups….the Thursday 9.30 class at Willoughby, the artistic 10.30 class at Willoughby, and the Moore Park boys club from 9.15 Tuesday. Upgrade your mind for 2017

Lisa Forrest and Evermind

Is your computer operating on MS-DOS? Are you making-do with dial-up Internet? Landline fax and answering machine? Managing without a smart phone? Analog-anything? And I suppose you don’t worry about using a firewall to block potential hackers? Maybe not...

But when was the last time you upgraded your mind? Or safeguarded it against the sophisticated media, marketing and technological forces determined to hack into it for their own purposes.

We wouldn’t dream of letting our technology get out of date. Yet, for the most important operating system we possess, we just assume it will keep up? Do you feel in control or stuck in habitual ways of doing things, telling the same stories about why you can’t do what you say you’d like to, feeling more pressured with less time, or just generally wondering when you took that detour you don’t seem to be able to find your way back from?

Mindfulness training is the upgrade you’ve been looking for. The health benefits of mindfulness are now well-documented – improved concentration and memory, reduced stress hormone and blood pressure levels, while boosting immunity. And these results are achieved by training the brain so that it’s not running more programs than it needs. So, when at work your mind is at work, when at play your mind is at play, and when at rest your mind is at rest. A simple upgrade is all takes.

Lisa Forrest from Evermind is running her popular and very effective LIVE BETTER Mindfulness courses in Term 1 2017 at Physiocise.

Moore Park : Mondays at 6.30pm commencing 6th February in Studio 2
Willoughby : Thursdays at 10.30am commencing 9th February in Studio 3

Clients of the Term...Our Coffee Groups!

Every Thursday members of our class enjoy gathering @ NOC - before going off to appointments, caring for grandchildren, shopping, flying off on trips etc. Many of us have been coming to the current building (old studio) since the business relocated there. A newer member of our class commented on how inclusive our 'Coffee Club' is - everyone is welcome. We all know about each other's families, new grandchildren, renovations etc plus travel - a popular topic.

Last Thursday we almost had a complete class - from left Geraldine, Mary, Jennifer, Jan, Di, Lynn, Sandra, Catherine, Linda, Jean and Gabrielle with Lynne, Helen, Jan and Paula not available.

We also get together for the occasional lunch and never miss a 'Let's Do Lunch' outing as part of the Good Food Month in October.

Cheers,
Jennifer (Coffee Club Ringleader)

What does physiocise offer an athlete?

Training can become too one dimensional, allowing bad habits and instabilities to creep in. Physiocise offers the athlete a chance to regroup. To refocus.
The Physiocise program helped guide my total body awareness and stability. Without doubt it ironed out my underlying weaknesses - and I can assure you I had many more than I realised! It has enabled me to concentrate my effort on better performance.

Is it different from what you thought it would be?

I never realised how bad my posture was, and how much stress and fatigue it was putting me under. This was leading to slow recovery from my training and increased injuries. Seemed simple - just sit up straight! But its not, Physiocise teaches you to use your brain and do it properly- harder than I expected to start with, but way worth the effort.

How do you use the messages from Physiocise classes in your busy everyday life?

Physiocise has taught me that we need to focus constantly. We need to develop good habits and practice- every single minute! For me, simply learning how to sit and stand has revolutionised my recovery from my general training, a completely unexpected benefit.

What is the thing you personally get most from coming to Physiocise classes?

Physiocise classes are the ultimate treatment session and training all bundled into one! Your body works hard, but your brain works harder! I hate training alone, it’s boring. But in a group setting Physiocise makes developing new postural habits interactive and enjoyable.

Our Quest for Better Health Fund Support

Better Health Fund Support

We know that the goalposts keep being moved, and we know that the health funds are getting less inclined to pay for prevention or maintenance. These are the tips we have gathered...let us know if you hear anything else!

HCF used to be our best supporters, but claims with them are becoming increasingly difficult because of the way they have grouped categories (they are the only health fund that do not recognize group physiotherapy). They require individual consultations with your class teacher at least once a year.

BUPA & Medibank Private – patients who go in and talk to them are finding they are happy to re-arrange the current policies to suit the needs of each individual. If the patient tries to do this online, they will only get the generic options. Some people are getting $12 back a class now because they have spent some time and negotiated face to face.

AHM is great if people want to make a complete change – they are happy for Physio to be the only listed extra in a policy if that is their main priority. AHM are also happy for patients to keep their hospital cover with their current fund, and then just have a policy for extras with them.

HBF – a Western Australian Fund – are giving a generous $17 back for classes

Teachers fund has steadily provided good rebates.

NIB are not generous in their rebates for classes but the refunds for individual consultations are fairly consistently good.
