Marvellous Mix

team biographies

Each of our staff is a highly skilled physiotherapist with a minimum Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy. We are all members of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

Anna-Louise Bouvier....a floppy

Anna-Louise started Physiocise in 1995. For many years she taught classes herself  and drove much of the development and evolution of the program, customising and changing strategies and exercises as she watched patients progress and change. Over the last few years she has stepped back from a teaching and hands-on role into full time development. Behind the scenes she has worked on refining the program and developing new ways of enhancing the teaching program. As well as her work writing for various magazines, and her regular spot on ABC radio with James Valentine she is currently on sabbatical writing her book for Harper Collins which will be published in Feb 2010. The book is based on the core principles of the Physiocise program. She has also been involved in developing various new exercise models for the rehabilitation of lumbopelvic pain in athletes.

Colleen Burns....a floppy

Born in Canberra, to a family of Dentists, Colleen always had an interest in health care, but knew from an early age that Dentistry was not for her! With a strong passion for sport as a teenager (and as a result - many hours spent at the physiotherapist) her interest in physiotherapy began to blossom. She attended Sydney University where she was awarded the Golden Key Award for academic excellence. She was also the student Australian Physiotherapy Association representative. Since graduating Colleen has worked with various sports teams,  treated many postural and overuse injuries, worked with chronic pain, as well as in aged care and women's health. With a history of low back pain herself (thanks to Floppy genes from her mother, combined with a terrible volleyball technique) Colleen became intensely interested in the concepts taught at Physiocise, having had first hand experience when attending classes as a client. Having had amazing results herself, Colleen joined the team and now works enthusiastically teaching these life skills in her dynamic classes.

Nathan Burns

Nathan Burns....a flippy

Nathan  originally trained not as a Physiotherapist but as a Carpenter. Unfortuantely his carpentry was severely affected by a back injury sustained early in his career. After seeking treatment from a variety of health professionals, with limited success, he began losing hope of continuing his work in carpentry. He was referred to Physiocise as a client for his, by then ,chronic and life limiting back pain.  Within less than a year he was pain free and was so impressed with the program that he decided to go to back to Uni as a mature age student and become a physiotherapist with the ultimate goal of working  with Physiocise to help empower other people to break the cycle of chronic pain. During his time at the University of Sydney, he was selected into the Golden Key Honour Society for outstanding academic achievements. On graduating her worked in private practice in Northern NSW (Yamba and Grafton) gaining valuable hands on experience in clinic and providing on and off field treatment for the NSW veterans hockey teams. In 2007, his dreams came true when he was offered a position at Physiocise. Nathan currently combines his work at Physiocise with a hands-on in an excellent private practice in the city. He loves his work!

Jane Doneman....a floppy
Jane has always been on the move. Through an illustrious school sporting career in netball, athletics, dancing and swimming, Jane spent many years learning about the body and its limitations through personal experience!! This sparked her interest in movement and rehabilitation and resulted in a degree in physiotherapy. Whilst working in the UK Jane trained as a Polestar Pilates Instructor, lectured internationally and managed a hugely varied client base from breakdancers, premier league footballers, west end performers and national ballet dancers. Returning to Sydney, Jane joined the Physiocise team, learnt she was a floppy and finally understood why she couldn't sit still!  Jane has a very busy schedule working at both Physiocise clinics, as well as continuing to treat hands-on clients at a progressive private practice in Newtown. She also enjoys surrounding herself with floppies, in her high profile role as the physio for So You Think You Can Dance!!

Zelda Hamman

Zelda Hamman....a flippy

Zelda graduated with a Bachelor of Science in physio in Johannesburg working  largely in hospitals and private practice. She completed a Post Graduate Manipulative therapy Diploma in South Africa and kept working in orthopaedics gaining invaluable experience in the rehabiliation and management of injuries. On immigrating to Australia in 1994 she worked in private practice but also worked extensively in core stability training for elderly patients using hydrotherapy. This marked the beginning of her interest for teaching in a class environment. Her passion is combining education and exercise to reduce and prevent injuries. As a fit and active person, continuing to play competitive squash until recently she has  spent years exploring her own wear and tear and brings a wealth of knowledge and personal experience to her work!

Melinda Luck....a flippy

Having graduated with distinction from the University of Sydney in 1996 her goal was to specialise in exercise rehabilitation. After initally working as a private practitioner at the Sydney University Sports Clinics she realised how invaluable the combination of education and exercise were in the long term management of her clients. Physiocise provided the ideal opportunity to work in this area . Her work has constantly evolved expanding into two highly specialised areas, one as the director of the Physiocise for the Office program, which takes the concepts of the Physiocise program to the workplace, and secondly in her role over the past 8 years as a consultant exercise and rehabilitation physio to the NSW Rugby Union and more recently to the Sydney Swifts netball.  She prides herself in delivering fantastic classes and managing clients with the utmost care and compassion incorporating the latest research and the ever evolving concepts developed by Anna-Louise and the fabulous team at Physiocise.

Sally Nield

Sally Nield.... a floppy

Sally Nield graduated in 1985, working initially in public hospitals and then spending the next few years working in England. This inspired her to new levels of excellence as Australian Physiotherapists were (and continue to be) highly regarded in England. On return to Australia she settled into Cammeray Physiotherapy where practice principal Sandie Rogers provided continual inspiration for excellence, compassion and generosity to patients as well as an unfailing desire to keep abreast of the latest research. In 1991 she completed a post graduate Diploma in Applied Science with a focus on management of spinal pain. She aslo completed research on one of her other areas of interest..ankles. Like many Floppies she has had many ankle sprains so this has remained an area of interest for her. Joining Physiocise as a staff member was inevitable after years of friendship and inspiring discussion with Anna-Louise about patient management. She brings a wealth of experience to all stages of client management.

Melissa Partington....a floppy
Melissa Partington is a physiotherapist with nearly 20 years experience, much of it in the management of chronic back and neck pain. After graduating from the University of Sydney she worked with leading chronic pain practitioners in the UK and Europe fostering her interest in this challenging group of clients. On returning to Sydney, Melissa worked in a number of private practices whose clientele included the Manly Sea Eagles and various Rugby Union teams. It was working with this combination of sporting and back pain clients along with pelvic floor and breathing dysfunctions that started her holistic approach to patient management. Melissa has now been passionately involved with Physiocise for 13 years, helping develop the programme from it's one-class–for-all beginnings to the highly specialised and structured programme that exists today. For the last two years she has enthusiastically embraced her role as Physiocise Medical Director. This involves training and developing our talented and dedicated staff in delivering an unparalleled product to our clients.

Kate Roberts.....a floppy

As one of the most academically qualified members of our team, Kate Roberts has a Masters degree in sports physiotherapy, and is a Sports Title Holder. A passionate ballet dancer in her youth, her love of physiotherapy is fueled by her passion for learning and expanding her knowledge about movement . Kate has worked in a variety of areas in her career – from school boy rugby and athletics to a locum position with the Australian Ballet but like all our Physiocise physiotherapists, her special interest became treating lumbopelvic pain using exercise prescription. She has continued her interest in dance and gymnastics as the physiotherapist for the NSW Rhythmic gymnastics National Team from 2002 – 2006 and as chairperson of the Dance Network of Sports Physiotherapy Australia. Since having her two children she has developed a keen interest in treating the pregnant and post natal lumbar spine/pelvis. When time finally permits she hopes to start Physiocise classes for new mums.

Dimity Thompson

Dimity Thompson.....a flippy

Hailing from the Central West, Dimity Thompson graduated from the University of Sydney in 2000. With a keen interest in physical fitness, her main passion was always injury prevention and rehabilitation. Her initial work was in the public hospital system caring for both adults and children. From there she went to work in a prestigious city private practice, dealing at close hand with the effects of high stress jobs combined with sedentary work environments . Over the next 5 years she developed extensive manual therapy skills specialising in the management of spinal disorders. She was also involved in conducting back care programs for office workers and establishing yoga programs in the workplace.  She became increasingly focused on facilitating her clients abilities to make changes in their long term habits, through education and movement retraining. In her search for expanding her already excellent skills, Dimity began her work with the Physiocise, and is now an integral member of the team. She is also involved in the Physiocise for Kids program as well as having a keen interest in pre and post natal work.

Requel Trevillion

Requel Trevillion.....a floppy
Requel's passions at school were biology and public speaking. In terms of career she saw herself as a teacher or contemplated working in paediatrics.Fortunately her career as a physiotherapist now finds her working in all of these fields as a gifted teacher and through her work as Director of the Physiocise for Kids Program. After graduating Requel worked as a physiotherapist in London as well as embarking on some intrepid travelling which saw her visiting most continents. Her versatility and resilience, features of her approach to her work, were most drawn on when travelling solo through the Middle East and South America ! On returning to Australia she worked extensively in private practice until she joined the Physiocise team nearly a decade ago. In 2004, she launched ‘Physiocise for Kids’.This progressive programme has been taught to over 3000 primary & secondary students. It highlights the importance of exercise and good posture, issues which are increasingly relevant as more and more schools turn to compulsory laptop usage. Recently, Requel has devoted much of her time to raising her two gorgeous children, with a steady eye on their posture!
